Description

This image contains a sprawl of fascinating objects along the edge of the Taurus molecular cloud, located 500 light-years away.  This 3 degree wide FOV is 30 light years wide.

LDN 1495 is the long dark cloud running through the lower half of this image.  Other highlights of the image include:

-  vdB 27, the white reflection nebula at top left.  This reflection nebula spans 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 1 light year.   The nebula is associated with the young star V* RY Tau (RY Tauri), a 9.3 magnitude Orion Variable star.  Eventually the star will clear out all of the dust and gas on its way to becoming a main sequence star like our sun.  My previous image of this object taken with my C11 setup is here.

-  Cederblad 30, the blueish reflection nebula at top, just right of center.

-  CW Tau, at top right.  This object is a young T-Tauri class star emerging from the remnants of its birth cloud, seen illuminating a reflection nebula.

-  6 Barnard dark nebulae scattered throughout the image.

-  At least 25 small galaxies are seen in the background, many of which are identified on the mouseover.
